Remember Flat Stanley? How about a real life Stanley who is a gorgeous and happy rescue dog?

This truly is¬†one of my favorite stories of all time…especially because it is true. Joanne Lefson felt the need to visit an animal shelter in her home of South Africa one day and fell in love at the sight of “Oscar,” a then seven year old mixed breed mutt who was due to be put down the very next day. Oscar, and his amazing personality took Joanne’s life over very quickly. He was special, as many dogs are. They understand more than we know or give them credit for at this point. Joanne was heart struck with this amazing dog that had that one last day to live before being euthanized, had she not gone to the shelter. Life changed for Joanne quickly. This woman decided to sell her home in Johannesburg to show an amazing life to her rescue dog using the money to finance their journey around the world. Not only was she giving a beautiful life to Oscar, but she was using their travels as a way to bring awareness to dog shelters and abandoned dogs without a home, to a world-wide public.

“An estimated half a billion dogs on the planet are homeless. When they are all adopted, we’ll unbuckle our seat belts and put our paws up.” – Joanne Lefson

Image

So far, Joanne and Oscar have taken in more than 30 countries across five continents, stopping at all the famous landmarks on the earth. Oscar has his own passport. They have traveled 93.000 miles which is twice the circumference of the earth in 9 months. In these visits, they have toured more than 20,000 dog shelters to raise awareness for abandoned animals.

I have always been attracted to strangely beautiful art. I have also been obsessed forever with gorgeously different and sparkling jewelry. For the first time in my life, I have discovered a designer who does so much more than integrate my two obsessions. She blends them in a way that my head could explode from the brilliance, but also creates pieces that are so beautiful, that I am not sure if I would actually slip it onto my wrist or neck or if I would encase it in glass and stare at it with hearts flittering out of my eyes for imagination inspiration daily. Like staring at art but also being able to wear it. What an insanely fabulous concept. She is RONA PFEIFFER.

What sets Rona apart from every other jewelry designer is that her stunning pieces are one of a kind, handmade and lovingly constructed from strange and unusual materials. It is obvious when you see a piece of Rona’s jewelry – you haven’t seen it before and you need to have it. Like going into an art gallery and falling in love with a piece, her designs are swoon-worthy, collection after collection.¬†

I could not be more proud to share our beauty interview with this innovative stunner RONA PFEIFFER:

WHAT INSPIRES YOU THAT YOU FIND BEAUTIFUL?

I find beauty and inspiration in nature’s patterns, art (my favorite painter is Modigliani) and unusual antiques and clothing.

WHAT INSPIRES A COLLECTION FOR YOU? DO YOU FIND A THEME OR HOW DO YOUR COLLECTIONS WORK?

Different things inspire a collection. Music is a big part of the way that I work. It definitely is a creative trigger for me. When I have an idea, I have to get to my studio right away to carry it out, because I can’t do anything else until I put my idea forward. I actually don’t have a theme for my collections, and create kind of like “free association.” It all just comes out and seems to flow together…that’s how my collections are born.¬†

IS THERE A PIECE THAT YOU HAVE DESIGNED AND CREATED THAT MEANS THE MOST TO YOU? IF SO, WHAT IS IT?

I created pieces for the Tim Burton movie “Dark Shadows.” Academy Award winning Costume Designer, Colleen Atwood asked me to make jewelry for Michelle Pfeiffer’s character in the film! This was really the most surreal and validating moment for me as a designer. Creatively, it put me on the path I am on now.

Image

WHAT IS THE LAST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU BOUGHT?

I’m always treasure hunting and traveling to find beautiful pieces to use in my collections. I just recently found old, wood carved beads and ancient coral from the middle east!

WHAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU HAVE EVER READ?

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

WHAT WAS THE MOMENT THAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO DESIGN YOUR GORGEOUS JEWELRY?

I never intended to design jewelry! I was an agent for film and television, but the doors into the jewelry world unexpectedly opened when I was doing a project with my daughter.

It’s been awhile…so much inspiration has raced by and finally a moment to breathe it all in and share it. Everyday I find something sparkling, something inspiring, and something magical. Even if it’s not the best day, something makes its message known. It is comforting to have glitter in my hair at the end of each and every day…GS&E style!

My vanity just got even prettier with the amazing Sibella Court’s secret book boxes. I ordered them from her beautiful gem of a shop in Sydney, Australia and it was SO worth the wait. These gorgeous antique looking books open up as secret boxes. I am so in love with them.

My GS&E princess sleep mask. 10 more minutes is never enough…

This is the outside window of Babycakes on Larchmont. I love how sparkly it is.

Totally obsessed with this new nail polish line called BUTTER. Currently in love with “Rosie Lee” and especially “Tart With A Heart.”

Fab summer night visit to Hollywood Park for the horse races. Winning five dollars has never been more fun! Dirty martini at the Turf Club….and french fries!!

My beautiful MY PEACE AND LOVE “Good Luck” bracelet that I am so in love with. This designer is so wonderful in so many ways and her work is inspiring and exquisite. I treasure this piece of hers.

I bought this beautiful piece of art in a little shop in Zuma Beach just past Malibu. It is the first thing I see every morning in my bedroom and I absolutely love it.

I was one of the first in line for tennis star’s Maria Sharapova’s candy line SUGARPOVA. These tennis ball gumballs are so lifelike they even look fuzzy and actually taste good and make fab bubbles! But the best part of her line is the “flirty sours” – a mix of lips, stars and hearts. Gummy sours that taste better than all the rivals! Ace!

Loving stargazers again…they smell beautiful, look beautiful and make a perfect pink candy cane sidekick.

I love this piece of art SO MUCH…

Can’t explain how this real Glade lavender chamomile candle changes rainbow colors every few seconds. It smells amazing and the rainbow colors are so gorgeous…

Priorities…

LOVE my ALEXIS COUTURE dress so much..

Always obsessed with Bendel bling..

And this is how I get to end every happy day…

There is a famous natural phenomenon all over Australia called the Min Min Light. These random unexplained lights are sometimes bright enough to light the ground under them. There is no explanation for these random lights in absolute dark places and they have continued years and years past hoax status. I believe ABBIE CORNISH is a Min Min Light. She has such light within her that she exudes serious sparkle and shine. And she is Australian. No way that is a coincidence.

Image

Abbie Cornish started out as a model and has been an award winning actress since she was 13 years old. She won Australia Film Institute’s Young Actor’s Award in 1997 and hasn’t stopped since. Her awards continued for years as she starred in critically acclaimed projects time and time again. Most recently, Abbie starred as the beautiful and troubled “Wally” in Madonna’s visually,¬†cinematically¬†beautiful and lush “W.E.” about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. Abbie stole the movie as an emotionally charged, beautiful and sadly suppressed character. It was magic.

Here GS&E shares a few beauty questions with this beautiful star:

WHERE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN?

I can actually say I am a true witness to my proclamation of the perfection of ANDIE MACDOWELL. I met her in person a couple times and as I have always said, she is the only person I have ever seen in real life that looked like she was in a glass box. She was so perfect, so flawless, so beautiful that it looked like life was not actually happening around her, such as heat or wind or fading lipstick. She was just in this untouchable box where she was existing and just looking out at all of us like we were like her. She was polite and charming and genuine. Head exploding kind of perfection. She was and is the epitome of class and stunning beauty.

Image

Andie was born in South Carolina and started modeling in the early 80’s. She quickly got noticed by Vogue, YSL, Armani, Bill Blass and many more. Her stunning Calvin Klein campaign led to so many open doors that she started getting offered movie roles. She easily got the role of the coveted beauty Dale Biberman in “St. Elmo’s Fire” which led to many more roles including her award winning role in Steven Soderbergh’s “Sex Lies and Videotape.” Andie’s brilliant role as Bronte in “Greencard” also won her many nominations.

So proud to share this beauty interview with this beauty icon of not just mine but the entire world:

WHAT INSPIRES YOU THAT YOU FIND BEAUTIFUL?

Nature inspires me. I am delighted by simple things I see everyday, from the flowers that hang over the rickety fences on the walking lane outside my little town house to the beauty of how the light falls on the ocean or dapples through the trees.

WHAT IS AN EVERYDAY FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCT OF YOURS THAT YOU LOVE?

For me the most important thing that you can do is keep your skin and hair replenished, moisturized and healthy. The face cream I use is Revitalift by L’Oreal and I have done so for years. The eversleek line by L’Oreal is my favorite right now. They have many products within the line to help condition my hair which can be dry and frizzy, but with the help of these products my hair feels healthy and is more manageable. I am a big believer in sunblock application, and if you are out for a long time you should always reapply and maybe even wear a hat.

WHERE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN?

There are so many beautiful places in the world and I have been blessed with many opportunities to travel. I love so many places that it is hard to choose which is the most beautiful. I’ve seen a good deal of Africa and that was amazing – Europe has Paris, Tuscany and the Alps. But I am a nostalgic person by nature, so after all I have seen, I still love the mountains and beaches of the Carolinas.

WHAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU HAVE EVER READ?

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes and I love anything by Barbara Kingsolver. Prodigal Summer is delightful and a fun read. I also love Anne Lamott who makes me laugh and makes me feel the world is right and good.

WHAT IS A BEAUTY SECRET OF YOURS THAT HAS YOU LOOKING FOREVER YOUNG??

I don’t feel that looking young forever is the best way to think about women want to look as they age. Instead the goal is to look great for their age, whatever that may be. I think we have amazing products available today that women did not have twenty years ago. Pro Retinol A is now formulated into creams like Revitalift and we have new ways to stimulate collagen growth. Age is a gift and there are many wonderful aspects to growing older and with the right product and life style we can maintain healthy looking hair and skin which may appear younger due to vitality.

WHAT IS AN INTERIOR DESIGN TIP OF YOURS? I SAW YOUR HOME ON A DESIGN SHOW AND AM OBSESSED WITH ITS BEAUTY!

For me, the home is one’s refuge and sanctuary, so each individual can create that personal space for themselves. I have different sides of myself and sometimes I enjoy modern spaces like the town house I am renting in Venice Beach. It has clean lines with cement floors in a modern kitchen. Then there are bamboo floors, white walls and mettle railings on the stairs so the small space feels bigger. My house in NC was a mix of French and English Tudor with rich dark hard wood floors and seven fireplaces running throughout the house. This was a storybook house with details in every room that filled the space in a sweet way, not at all ostentatious. I love the color green and I used it in may shades in tiles for the fire places. Many of the details were created or inspired by local artisans who lived in and around Asheville. I kept the cabinets lighter and the kitchen, plus main living space lighter because I wanted those rooms to feel easy and sweet for my family. We had great window and loads of light which I enjoy. The fabrics had the feeling of age and kept with the Tudor style. I used earthy muted tones that made the house feel timeless and warm.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ADVICE TO LIVE A BEAUTY FILLED LIFE?

For me, beauty is an action. You can take care of your skin and your hair, you can paint your face, doll up your hair and dress in the best clothes, but if your heart is not beautiful you will never truly be beautiful. Fill your heart, spirit and soul with kindness, treat people with love and respect and you will have a much better chance of looking beautiful, because you will be beautiful. Your thoughts, words, deeds and actions need to be beautiful.

Image

Andie is currently starring on “Jane By Design.” There is huge anticipation looming about Andie’s role as “Olivia Lockhart” in Hallmark’s first Drama Series “Cedar Cove” this Fall.

She has beauty and goodness just pulsing out of her perfect eyelash swishes. She exudes positivity, hope and happiness just from her gorgeous electric smile. I am happier to be in this world because I know she is here.
