“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserves your love and affection.” – Buddha

When I recently heard that the stunningly gorgeous and endlessly interesting CARRE OTIS was about to release a memoir, I threw my lip gloss into the air and raced to my kindle to upload it that moment. “Beauty Disrupted” was not to be released for another two days so I tap, tap, tapped my fingers for the two days waiting for that beautiful little twirling swirl to upload it to my device so I could dive into it. Little did I know that this book would be my obsession for the quick little two days it took me to pour through it or that it would stay with me forever. It was riveting, it was sometimes shocking, it was sad, it was hopeful, it was beautiful. It is such an amazing story that you forget, page after page, that it is a memoir. As sad as it got, it rose into the most beautiful fairy tale. And one that no one deserved more than Carre Otis.

Carre was a teen runaway who by fate, ended up becoming one of the most famous and beloved supermodels the world will ever know. Her career has been long, illustrious and hugely successful. What people don’t know and will know now after reading her book, is that Carre has endured more than anyone should ever have to and yet, she always counteracted the bad with a larger good in her success. She pushed past the bad and always came out on top with something positive and fabulous. She is stronger than anyone should have to be. It is inspiring and so beautiful.

Carre found herself completely connected to the Buddhist religion and studied her beautiful heart out and it changed her life. She is now happily married with two beautiful girls. There is so much magic in her life story that you can’t help but be charmed and inspired by everything she learns and shares throughout this book. Throughout all her numerous modeling campaigns and her hard life lessons, there is a woman with the softest, kindest, most open heart and it is so beautiful to see that heart end up truly happy, content and fulfilled. That is what life is all about.

So proud to share this EXCLUSIVE beauty interview with the amazing CARRE OTIS:

WHAT INSPIRES YOU THAT YOU FIND BEAUTIFUL?

Passionate people. Honesty. Integrity. Compassion. My husband. My daughters. And mother nature.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEAUTY PRODUCT?

Raw, organic coconut oil.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL WAS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF WRITING YOUR BOOK?

The conversation it is stirring. The tears that are being shared. The many people that have thanked me for telling ‘their’ story. And the acknowledgment of the courage it took to bring this forth.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR HAPPIEST MOMENTS?

Just before the sun rises my daughters inevitably find their way down the stairs and into my bed. We start every day cuddling and connecting. It is so precious.

DO YOU HAVE AN EVERY DAY BEAUTY RITUAL?

Lots of water and lots of laughter.

WHERE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN?

On retreat with my teacher from Tibet.

DO YOU BELIEVE HAPPINESS CONTRIBUTES TO BEAUTY?

Absolutely. They are one and the same.

A quote that GS&E agrees with wholeheartedly is: “Summer should get a speeding ticket.” It is so true. Fortunately, there is so much to look forward to in the Fall such as, carving scary pumpkins (and cooking the seeds!), kicking up colorful leaves, cashmere sweaters, velvety blankets to twirl up in at bedtime and salted caramel hot chocolate at Starbucks. There has been and will be so much beauty to make our eyes dazzle and our minds dance lately and these are a few of those beautiful moments that GS&E has captured to share…

A gorgeous rainbow after a few sprinkles while the sun was still out…

Always amazed when flowers grow into a natural bouquet out of the ground…

This fabulous photo makes me think of a classic, beautiful and happy summer..cotton candy gorgeousness…”Meet Me in St. Louis, Louis…Meet Me at the Fair…Don’t Tell Me the Lights Are Shining…Anywhere But There….”

When I see beautiful sprinklers dancing in the sunlight like this I think of blue Otter Pops, grass stains on my knees, the taste of hose water…and the lullaby sound of the ice cream truck crawling down the street!

The gorgeous view from the top of the ferris wheel at Santa Monica Pier…

Sparkling Henri Bendel hairbrush for your doggie…

My secret snack…Elizabeth Hurley organic oat bars…I order from UK in bulk…the orange and chocolate bar is the most delicious!!

Everyone has a beautiful and magical place they can go to when they close their eyes…that place for GS&E is The Society Inc. in Paddington, Australia. The owner / visionary is the amazing SIBELLA COURT in case you have missed her last GS&E beauty feature. Sibella lives in the wonderland in our minds, where everything is possible, the things we love can come alive and she can create the fantasy we wish existed. She is like the design fairy who taps into your out-there mind and delivers in a bold, beautiful and impactful way. As Sibella describes her business, it is a “magical, make-believe space that transports you to a time forgotten of merchants, and traders (though they still exist in others parts of the world.) Apothecary, tinctures and alchemy, drapes and mills, smiths, tinkers, peddlers and keepers, cutlers, sailmakers, chandelery and wrights. The Society Inc. reflects my globetrotting adventures, beachcombing, bowerbird nature and gypsy curiosity, inspiring, collecting and treasure hunting.” What magic!

So proud to share this Fall interview with the gorgeous and twinkling SIBELLA COURT:

WHAT IS INSPIRING YOU THIS FALL?

It’s just coming out of a particularly chilly winter in Australia & I can already smell spring in the air. My nasturtiums on my front lawn (slash the public walkway outside my shop) are just starting to bloom, deep aubergine & poppy orange. I am always so inspired by honest materials & natural beauty.

WHAT COLORS ARE CURRENTLY INSPIRING YOU?

I’m loving day-glo at the moment. It’s going to be a day-glo Christmas at The Society Inc.!

WHERE IS A PLACE YOU CURRENTLY TRAVELED TO THAT HAS BROUGHT YOU INSPIRATION?

I just returned from South-East Asia. Cambodia was full of smiley monkeys & motorcycles & the hotel we stayed in gave me an insight to a portion of Cambodia’s history little known: a cool & classy attitude shown through simple, subtle interiors- very Christian Liaigre in color palette & approach: canes, black, ebony woods, soft khakis & clean, crisp sites with a background of natural stone, pebblecrete & terrazzo.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISCOVERY THIS SUMMER?

Yet to be discovered! I just spent a long weekend writing my fourth book in Byron Bay, on the coast of NSW. It was easy to pretend Summer had already come up there & I naughtily allowed myself to slip into holiday-mode (just for a moment).

FAVORITE PIECE IN YOUR SHOP AT THE MOMENT?

The huge trophy heads of a giraffe, antelope, zebra & hippo that arrived on my doorstep this morning! They are creature-friendly & made out of paper mache.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT SHOP THEME?

Ahoy! Pirate ships hang from the ceiling & telescopes, skulls & other pirate-y paraphernalia make for a swashbuckling experience at the shop. Come and visit for some superstitious talk & cheeky language. Next stop, JUNGLE.

WHAT BRAND/SHADE OF NAIL POLISH ARE YOU LOVING?

I am still in love with the two nail polish colors I designed for Bloom: Tattered & Gypsy Gold. When you get to create your own perfect nail polishes- it’s hard to go past them! The nail polishes in the shop often find their way to my desk upstairs.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEW BOOK! WHEN WILL IT BE AVAILABLE IN THE US! SO EXCITED!!

NOMAD: BRINGING YOUR TRAVELS HOME is my third book, available in the States in September. It’s all about how to be inspired ¬†on your adventures & then how to transfer all that inspiration into your home & lifestyle when you come home through arrangement, color, design or material. I love that the most unexpected of things can trigger a story or transport you to a moment from a past trip.

“We love because it’s the only true adventure.” – Nikki Giovanni
